MADISON, MS (WLBT) - A new housing development could be headed to the Ross Barnett Reservoir.
A group called Expedition Point Development was recently awarded the bid to lease a section of Reservoir property to build on.
Expedition Point is a proposed development to be built west of Brown’s Landing near the Highway 43 and Natchez Trace intersection.
Developers were recently granted rights to a 60-year lease to build right on the waters edge.
John Sigman, general manager of the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District said, “It will be about 135 housing units, they’ll have a lodge, a boat house and new private piers. I want to emphasize the public pier that is there now will remain public. Public parking areas will be accessible, so fishermen and boaters will be able to use is as they have in the past.”
Sigman says developers have proposed making upgrades to the existing public boat landing and parking area.
“It’s going to be a quality development with a lot of green space, trails, a barn for equestrian interests,” he said.
Construction could begin later this year.
The new lakefront community will likely draw residents who enjoy the outdoors, with a plethora of activities close by.
Sigman said, “You got the Natchez Trace Historic Trail on the Natchez Trace right there, and directly across Highway 43, there’s the Turcotte Facility with archery and shooting skeet. All kinds of things.”
Lot offerings could begin early in 2020.
Developers with Expedition Point say they will release more details and renderings of what they plan to build when they sign the lease with Reservoir officials in the next 90 days.
