Jackson neighbor fed up with violence; plans to move

Deadly shooting, reaction

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - “Man I’m so sick of it. We’re moving out of the city of Jackson,” said Steven Ray. He said there’s nothing he can do about the violence in his neighborhood and said crime has become the norm.

Ray said, “When we hear gunshots, we don’t get up run to the window to see what’s going on anymore. We just say somebody shooting their gun. We don’t think about somebody just got shot. We certainly don’t feel safe.”

Ray lives around the corner from the home where a man was killed before 8:30 Saturday night on Monterey Street. The victim was found with several gunshot wounds and lying in a driveway. Three other men were shot and taken to the hospital.

Ray was home at the time and heard the gunfire.

"Boom boom boom boom. Boom boom boom boom. Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom. You can tell people were shooting back and forth at each other, said Ray.

Police said the man who died did not live at the location where he was found. The shooting remains under investigation.

Ray is praying the senseless violence will stop as he looks for a new place to call home.
