JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Jackson Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 14-year-old dead.
The teenager was shot and killed just after 8 p.m. on Easter Sunday on Eminence Row near Revels Avenue.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart has identified the victim as 14-year-old Rodrick Johnson.
Police arrested 41-year-old Stacy Lidell and charged him with murder. Officials say Lidell was taken into custody after a brief standoff.
Chief James Davis with the Jackson Police Department says that officers served an arrest warrant at the suspect’s home on Bishop Avenue shortly after the shooting.
According to police, the shooting happened moments after an alleged theft that took place on the suspect’s property.
Lidell was denied bond at his initial court appearance. Police say that he fired his gun around multiple children, leading to the death of Rodrick Johnson.
Johnson was a student at Powell Middle School in Jackson.
