Learned Storm Damage

LEARNED, MS (WLBT) - Residents in Learned spent the day clearing debris left by Thursday’s storms.

Everywhere you look in the village of just over 30 residents there is destruction. Trees and power lines tossed about by this strong storm.

Power lines were down everywhere.

Trees uprooted, and tossed on top of, and through homes.

Hinds County EOC Director Ricky Moore says there were 14 homes with minor to major damage.

Amazingly not one injury.

When the storm blew in, residents were caught off guard by its power.

Chris Rehers said, “The noises that we heard were so terrifying it was the first time in our lives where we thought we might not make it.”

Chris Rehers and his children ducked in a closet as the storm passed over his home.

“We just began to pray as it hit we sang a hymn then we came out here. There’s roof damage the porch is collapsing,” said Rehers.

Power is off to the entire city.

Restoration may not happen till next week.

Throughout the day neighbors were helping each other in the cleanup.

Many say the storm totally changed the landscape of the town, but not the people, all of whom were spared.
