STARKVILLE, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi State’s Aric Holman and Quinndary Weatherspoon have earned bids to play in the prestigious 67th annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament which is set for Wednesday, April 17 through Saturday, April 20 at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Operating since 1953, the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT) is one of the preeminent NBA pre-draft camps with approximately 200 NBA representatives in attendance. The four-day tournament consists of 12 games with 64 invited college seniors playing on eight teams of eight players.
The Bulldogs are the only SEC school and one of 11 programs nationally to send two players to the event. The other 10 programs include Buffalo, Clemson, Florida State, Georgetown, Iowa State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia Tech and Wofford.
Holman will be playing for Roger Brown’s Restaurant and Sports Bar on a roster that includes Cameron Jackson (Wofford), Christian James (Wofford), John Konchar (Purdue Fort Wayne), Isaiah Pineiro (San Diego), Marcquise Reed (Clemson), Kerwin Roach II (Texas) and Mike Yarbrough (Illinois State).
Weatherspoon will suit up for Sales Systems, Ltd. on a roster that includes JaKeenan Grant (Louisiana-Lafayette), Jessie Govan (Georgetown), Tyler Hall (Montana State), Daquan Jeffries (Tulsa), Jeremiah Martin (Memphis), Juwan Morgan (Indiana) and Justin Robinson (Virginia Tech).
Holman and Weatherspoon are two of six SEC players participating in the PIT, along with Kavell Bigby-Williams (LSU), Terence Davis, Jr. (Ole Miss), Donta Hall (Alabama) and Chris Silva (South Carolina).
Recent Mississippi State attendees at the PIT include Gavin Ware (2016), Dee Bost (2012), Ravern Johnson (2011), Charles Rhodes (2008), Timmy Bowers (2004) and Derrick Zimmerman (2003).
