GRAMBLING, LA (WLBT) - Senior Christina Ellis dropped a game-high 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting to propel Jackson State past Grambling State 77-74 Saturday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
JSU improves to 6-12 and 2-5 in the SWAC, while GSU falls to 8-11 and 5-2 in the conference.
As a team, the Lady Tigers shot 46.9 percent (30-of-64), while holding Grambling to 38.8 percent. JSU also forced GSU into 27 turnovers, which was turned into 26 points.
JSU won the game in the paint with 44 points, while outrebounding GSU 55-35.
Junior Sumer Williams grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and added eight points. Fellow junior Marniesha Hamer netted 14 points and hauled in seven boards.
Sophomore D’Asia Mitchell came off the bench and added instant offense with 10 points.
Junior Kaisah Lucky added nine points, including converting a pair of free throws in the final moments to put the game out of reach.
The Lady Tigers return to the hardwood Saturday, February 2 and host Mississippi Valley State.
