Rural broadband plan passes Senate
Generic: Rural broadband

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Legislation that could bring faster Internet connections to more Mississippi homes and businesses in rural areas passed the Senate today.

“The long-term success of rural Mississippi depends on connectivity and access to faster Internet services,” Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said. “Enabling more competition will lead to our local communities attracting more jobs and help Main Street retailers and producers sell their products to the world.”

House Bill 366, the Mississippi Broadband Enabling Act, gives electric power associations the option to construct broadband services for customers.

The bill now heads to the Governor for his approval.
