JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Governor Phil Bryant says lawmakers can expect a positive message during his State of the State address. The Governor says Mississippi has the lowest unemployment numbers and the highest graduation rates in the history of the state.

Governor Bryant said, “We’re gonna talk about a 50 million dollar teacher pay raise to keep our best and brightest teachers there in the classroom. We’re gonna thank them for passing the Mississippi Modernization Infrastructure Act that will put a billion dollars into our infrastructure. So as always a very positive message and some challenges as I leave this office.”

The governor was one of the speakers Friday at the Mississippi Opioid Response Exposition at the Jackson Medical Mall. He says he wants more accountability for those who have opioid prescriptions.

Governor Bryant says anyone who knowingly sells an opioid drug and that drug takes a life, that person should face some form of manslaughter charge.
