RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) - Three luxury car dealerships are moving from Jackson, crossing the county line.
While it will be somewhat of a loss in tax dollars for the Capital City, company officials say Ridgeland and Jackson will see benefits from the company’s growth.
Ritchey Automotive officials and local dignitaries have broken ground for the new Audi, Jaguar and Land Rover locations in Ridgeland.
The site will be at 7036 I-55 North Frontage Road.
Audi will occupy 26,000, while Jaguar and Land Rover will sit on 21,000 square feet. It is a $15 million investment.
The need for more space and increased sales prompted the companies move.
“We’ve had a lot of success in sales. In fact, December of this last year was a record for sales for Audi and for Land Rover in the Jackson market," said Taylor Wondries, Ritchey Automotive vice president and general manager. “I think we’re doing a really good job representing those brands here in Mississippi.”
Chris Douglas and his wife Leann are looking at a Land Rover at the current Jackson location. They like the idea of room for more inventory.
“To keep them from going out of state to somewhere else to buy a vehicle,” said Douglas. “I’m from Brookhaven, and we came up here today to do a little shopping. I believe that they’re gonna be moving locations.”
Ritchey Automotive’s move follows that of Mercedes, which also made Ridgeland its home in November of 2017.
Madza of Jackson now occupies the I-55 location.
“We didn’t want just any dealership here though, we wanted the top of the line, and that’s what we’ve gotten,” said Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee. “So them coming here, and us working with them as a partner is a great thing for Ridgeland, and a great thing for Madison County.”
The company's Volkswagen dealership and Used Car Super Center will remain at the current Jackson location.
The new Ridgeland dealerships are expected to open in December 2019.
