JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Customers shopping at a local grocery store chain say they’re worried about how long the chain will be able to keep their doors open.
For years, the Piggly Wiggly brand has been a household name. Now, people who frequent the store say their shelves are becoming bare.
Store customer Marilyn Ward said, “Their shelves are bare, less meat on the shelf, food, milk, bread.”
Customer Sharon West said, “It’s been really low on supplies. I’ve asked several times if they’re closing. It seems to be the case but it’s really low stocked.”
Customers we talked to say they noticed the change several months ago.
Many products on the shelves are not being replaced.
Shoppers have asked store workers, but can't get a straight answer.
At the store on Meadowbrook in Jackson, Rosie Foster said, “I was just thinking they’re closing down but I just asked the cashier and she said they’re not closing down.”
“I think they’re closing and they’re just not telling us us for whatever reason,” said Sharon West.
We left messages at Piggly Wiggly's local corporate office in Canton, but so far our calls were not returned.
Loyal customers tells us they hope a grocery store where generations have shopped, can keep their doors open.
“As I came the last couple of months I was thinking that so many of us depend on this location, I think it would be devastating really,” said Rosie Foster.
We will update you on any response from the Piggly Wiggly’s corporate office, as it’s made available to us.
