JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Julian Smith, a 38-year-old black man, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, after a shooting on Palmyra Street, according to Jackson police.
JPD Sgt. Roderick Holmes said it happened in the 1300 block just before 8 p.m.
Officers responded to the area after multiple shots were fired. When they arrived, officers found Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Several spent casings could also been seen in the street.
The victim’s condition was critical and he was immediately transported to an area hospital where he died a short time later.
Officers learned that there had been some type of disturbance between individuals in the street prior to the shooting. However, there was no clear information regarding a suspect or motive.
A home was also hit by gunfire but no other injuries were reported.
Investigators have also learned that a second victim recently showed up an area hospital by private vehicle. The victim is a 46 year-old black male who also suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body and is believed to have occurred at the same location. He is listed in stable condition however, his name has not been released. His involvement, if any, in the incident is also not yet known.
