JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi State Senator Terry Burton resigned Tuesday from his position as Senate pro tempore, after apologizing for his recent DUI.
He will continue to serve in his Senate seat but will not seek re-election this year.
Burton said that he hopes his actions don’t reflect on other members and if he disappointed any fellow members he is truly sorry.
Burton says he is working with professionals to deal with his personal issues.
Burton was arrested in December of 2018 for DUI in Oktibbeha County.
He pleaded guilty to DUI after a 2014 arrest in Brandon.
He was charged with another DUI in Scott County in 2016, but was later found not guilty.
