JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Just after 8:00 p.m. Monday night, an assault and robbery occurred at the One Stop Food Mart in the 500 block of West Northside Dr.

When Jackson police arrived, they found that the store clerk was suffering from an injury after being struck repeatedly with a blunt object.

Officers learned that a black male attempted to shoplift items in the store, but was confronted by the store clerk.

After attacking the clerk, the robber tried and failed to take cash from the register, but did manage to get away with the clerk’s cell phone before running away.

The clerk was transported with a broken arm along with other less severe injuries.

The suspect is of slender build and was last seen wearing a brown hat, red and dark colored top, dark sleeves and light colored pants.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS(8477). A reward of up to $2500 is available if that information leads to an arrest.

This is an on-going investigation.
