UPDATE: Goodman teen taken off life support after possible accidental shooting

GOODMAN, MS (WLBT) - A 17-year-old boy who was shot in the head was taken off life support Friday.

Goodman Police Chief Charles Henderson said the boy died around 2:30 p.m. at UMMC. Chief Goodman added that the boy’s body will be taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

The boy was shot in the right side of his head Wednesday and the bullet exited through the left side.

The shooting happened at Cedar Grove Apartments on Cedar Grove Drive.

The wound appears to be self-inflicted, but police have not recovered the gun.

A male teen who fled the scene was located Wednesday and questioned by police. He said the victim was playing with the gun went it went off.

Goodman Police Chief Charles Henderson said he doesn’t believe the teen ever took the gun, and from his conclusion, he ran out of fear.

Police believe someone possibly came into the home before police got there and retrieved the gun.

The chief added that a disabled man who’s related to the 17-year-old was also at the apartment when the shooting happened.

Neither the teen victim nor teen taken in for questioning have been identified.

The shooting is being investigated as accidental. No arrests have been made.
