JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Two Canton city employees who were indicted and arrested in a voter fraud case have now been suspended from their jobs.
Courtney Rainey, the Director of Human and Cultural Needs, is suspended with pay according to Canton Mayor William Truly. Rainey faces multiple counts in the case.
Desmand King, a deputy city clerk, is also suspended with pay. She is indicted on two counts of voter fraud.
The Mayor said he does not have the authority to suspend Rainey and King without pay.
Rainey is also a member of the Canton School Board.
A Board of Aldermen’s meeting is scheduled for Tuesday. Aldermen can support the Mayor’s decision, or suspend both without pay, or they can vote to overturn the suspensions.
This is also the first time the Board of Aldermen will meet following the indictment of fellow member Vicki McNeil.
McNeil faces four counts of voter fraud. She represents Ward 5.
