JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Two churches were damaged in Yazoo County during the overnight storms. A large tree fell at Old Concord M.B. Church on Anding Oil City Road, between Yazoo City and Bentonia, in the area known as Little Yazoo. Part of the church’s roof was blown off, leaving nothing but the rafters. There is extensive damage inside and a big mess to clean up.
Less than a mile away, the steeple at Central Baptist Church on Highway 49 is now standing at a precarious angle after it was battered by high winds during the storm. Pastor Scotty Smith says it can be fixed and will not affect worship services. He says there was also a gas leak, so the gas service was turned off until the leak can be repaired. Smith pointed out that his community has been through bad weather many times before.
"There's a lot of storms that come through here, but there's a lot of other places that storms come through,” he said. “We here at Central Baptist Church, and this community, is praying for all those that were in the path of that storm."
No injuries have been reported in Yazoo County.
