JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Police have made an arrest in the shooting of two women that happened on Ridgeway Street earlier this week. Additionally, police believe one of the victims in the shooting could be related to a victim of another shooting that injured a woman and two 2-year-olds.
27-year-old Nankedia Lowe has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and a convicted felon in possession of a firearm in the shooting of Tywana Lewis and her 17-year-old daughter. Lowe surrendered herself to investigators Wednesday and is currently awaiting her initial court appearance.
The shooting happened in the 300 block of E. Ridgeway Street on Monday.
Police say 33-year-old Tywana Lewis was shot following a fight with another woman, presumed to be Lowe. Shortly after, they were notified that her 17-year-old daughter, who had been at the scene, was also shot and had arrived at a local hospital.
Additionally, JPD investigators have revealed that the Tywana and Rachel Lewis, the mother who was shot along with two toddlers Wednesday on Bailey Avenue, could possibly be sisters. Police have not yet revealed if the two shootings could be connected.
Rachel Lewis and her two children were shot in a drive by shooting at a home she was renting.
Both sisters remained hospitalized. Rachel Lewis and her son are both in stable condition. Her daughter is critical, but stable.
Many Jackson residents were shocked at the recent violence towards women and children.
The investigation is ongoing as police try to determine a motive and suspect in the second case.
