JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Law enforcement agencies have experienced lots of criticism and negative attention because of the actions of a few officers. Some of those officers have been charged and convicted, up to murder, but that does not justify a blanket indictment of all officers.
With any group – doctors, teachers, politicians, professional athletes, pastors and priests, the media or any other job category you want to name – there are people who make poor decisions and bring negative attention to their profession.
When it comes to police, we need to remember that most officers run towards danger when everyone else is running away and every day those officers put on their uniforms, they do not know what they are going to face. That happened this week when two Brookhaven officers - Corporal Zach Moak and Patrolman James White – were killed responding to a call. They were committed to protect and serve.
The next time the actions of a rouge officer become the top story, don’t bash the entire law enforcement community. We should think of these two dedicated men and the other officers who aren’t making the negative headlines and are out there putting their lives on the line to keep us safe.
To the families of Zach Moak and James White, we thank you for their service and offer our condolences for your loss. May God bless you and comfort you through this very difficult time.
