Sheriff: No arrests in Irby crash as investigation continues

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin says no arrests have been made in a fatal crash that killed two people, because there is no indication those involved would flee.

He also said the county would be responsible for their medical bills if they were under arrest.

Dr. Mark Pogue of Brandon and his fiancee, Dr. Lisa Dedousis of New Jersey, were killed when their pickup truck was hit by a Mercedes driven by Karen Irby of Jackson. Irby is no longer a patient at University Medical Center, but we understand she is undergoing extensive physical therapy.

Her husband, Stuart M. Irby, remains in fair condition at UMC.

Witnesses say the Irbys were speeding west on Old Canton Road on the night of February 11 when their car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with Pogue's truck.

Police say evidence in the case will be turned over to a Hinds County grand jury when the investigation is complete.
