Absentee voters rush to beat deadline

Hinds County, MS (WLBT) - If you were planning to vote by absentee ballot, Saturday was the deadline to hand deliver it to the Hinds County Circuit Clerk's office.  More than 500 people crowded the Hinds County Courthouse Saturday to fill out their absentee ballot.  Each voter had to get in by noon or they were turned away.

Circuit Clerk Barbara Dunn says the number of absentee ballots has tripled since the last presidential election to more than 6,000.  Her office is working throughout the weekend and she is asking for patience from those calling in with questions.

"All lines will be busy.  Please be patient.  You have been patient all this time asking questions.  Most of the questions are "will you look and see if I am registered? Where am I registered? Where is it located?  That will continue," said Barbara Dunn.

If you are sending in your absentee ballot you should get them in the mail now.  Hinds County absentee ballots received on election day will only count in the presidential race.
