Sullivan Pleads Guilty to Aggravated Assault Charges

Mendenhall Police Chief Jimbo Sullivan has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault charges, related to accusations he had sex with a teen.

Today was to be the start of his third trial on related charges. Two previous trials ended with hung juries, with jurors voting 11-1 to convict.

This morning Sullivan plead guilty in Simpson County Circuit Court in front of the victim who was 14-years-old at the time of the incident.

Sullivan was sentenced to four years in prison. He will have to pay three thousand dollars in fines plus court costs, and has been ordered not to have any contact with the victims family, who has also been ordered not to contact him.

Although sullivans original charge was four counts of sexual battery, prosecutors were pleased with his willingness to plead in this case.

"This has been a sensationalized case that has brought up the interest of people in this community this county, jackson, all over. People ask me about this case and to see her potentially victimized again by having to take the stand and the potential for there to be another 11-1 verdict, I think that justice was served" said prosecutor Scott Johnson.

Sullivan did not make any comments as he left the courtroom. His family went as far as putting their hands on our cameras to prevent us from taking his picture.

Sullivan will have to report to begin serving his sentence on February first of next year.
