MDOC inmate death brings total to 15 for month of August

VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) - Another Mississippi Department of Corrections inmate has died, bringing the total to 15 for the month of August.

According to Greene County Coroner Ladd Pulliam, 55-year-old Earl Davis died at 12:52 p.m. Thursday at Promise Hospital in Vicksburg.

Davis was serving 20 years at South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville.

He was sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter on September 25, 2008, and another 10 years for aggravated assault (domestic incident) on February 5, 2009. Both incidents happened in Lauderdale County.

At the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman, there have been three deaths.

Coroner Pulliam said Davis had been hospitalized at Promise Hospital for a short period of time.

He said Davis' pending cause of death is a natural one, and he doesn't suspect foul play.
