Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald will not play in opener

STARKVILLE, MS (WLBT) - Nick Fitzgerald will not play Saturday in Mississippi State's season opener against Stephen F. Austin.

Bulldogs head coach Joe Moorhead announced Fitzgerald's suspension, citing an unspecified violation of team rules in March.

Fitzgerald hasn't played since the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving, where he suffered a dislocated ankle.

Keytaon Thompson will start at quarterback for Mississippi State on Saturday. Thompson passed for 127 yards and rushed for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Bulldogs Taxslayer Bowl victory over Louisville.
