CLAIBORNE COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - An arrest has been made in the disappearance and death of a Jefferson County woman.
The body of Rosie Lee Oliver was recovered last weekend in Claiborne County. Travis Kelly of Port Gibson is now charged by Jefferson and Claiborne counties with her abduction and death.
A charred area of grass and weeds is in the spot outside of Port Gibson off Frazier Road, where investigators say a hiker found Oliver's body beaten, stabbed and set on fire. According to authorities, her boyfriend, Kelly, is responsible for the attack.
Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker said the 43-year-old was hit repeatedly in the face and head, with multiple stab wounds to her neck.
The mother of five was discovered around 10 a.m. Saturday, one day after her 16-year-old son reported her missing.
He told Jefferson County officers that his mother was last seen with Kelly Thursday night at her Phillips Road home in Lorman. Officials said Kelly was staying there.
"There was a lot of evidence at the crime scene that would easily connect him to let him know that we were able to determine that the person from the vehicle that he was in has been to this location," said Sheriff Walker.
Claiborne County authorities questioned Kelly, picking him up on a previous domestic violence and aggravated assault warrant in Port Gibson.
The 29-year-old denied knowing Oliver's whereabouts.
The joint investigation by Jefferson and Claiborne counties uncovered evidence at the crime scene.
"It was established that he was with her," said Claiborne County Sheriff Frank Davis. "He had previous arrests for domestic violence charges from talking to some people in the community, including assault on his mother."
Claiborne County investigators said Oliver's burned body was found less than five miles from Kelly's family home near Port Gibson.
He is charged in Claiborne County with first degree murder and arson.
His arraignment was held Thursday, where he is being held on $400,000 bond.
Kelly is charged with kidnapping in Jefferson County and is awaiting arraignment
