Madison police arrest man after high speed chase

MADISON, MS (WLBT) - Tuesday night, a man was arrested after a high speed chase in Madison.

At 8:03 p.m. officers were working a traffic detail on I-55 in Madison when they tried to stop a 2008 Pontiac with an expired license place.

The car didn't stop and began gaining speed as it kept going northbound on the interstate.

More officers joined in the chase, trying to stop the car but it continued into Madison County.

The car reached speeds of 85 miles per hour and got off on the Nissan Parkway exit.

The driver turned into the Nissan Plant where officers surrounded the car and the driver was arrested after a brief struggle.

Ronald Anthony Smith from Canton was chared with an expired license plate, window tint violation, reckless driving, driving with license suspended, possession of marijuana, felony DUI, and felony fleeing.

Smith was taken to the Madison County Detention Center where he will stay until he appears before the city judge on Wednesday.

Nobody was injured in this chase.
