86% of voters support $65 million bond referendum for JPS improvements

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The results of the $65 million Jackson Public Schools bond referendum are rolling in.

As of Tuesday at 11 p.m., the ballots are in for 70 out of 81 precincts.

Jeanne Middleton Hairston, the president of the Jackson Public School board, is calling a victory for supporters of the bond issue.

"We want our parents and our guardians to know, and grandparents to know, that of all of us in this district and this board in particular, our commitment to everyday work on behalf of all of our students and everyone with us," said Hairston. "Everyone has a chance to succeed and meet his or her full potential."

For the bond referendum: 11,449 (that's 86%)

Against the bond referendum: 1,757 (that's 13%)

Total votes counted: 13,297
