JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - UMMC will continue to offer in-network costs to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi patients, despite the lack of agreement on a new contract.
The prior deal was extended one month after expiring at the end of June. UMMC says mediation continues and they'll continue providing in-network costs to Blue Cross Blue Shield patients in the interim.
In May, the University of Mississippi Medical Center announced it would stop accepting policies from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, the state's largest private insurer, citing contract dissatisfaction.
Hospital officials said the hospital could no longer abide a contract in which Blue Cross makes unilateral changes that cost the hospitals money.
