JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Delwin Wells, a 28-year-old black man, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, after a shooting days earlier at a gas station, according to Jackson police.
JPD Sergeant Roderick Holmes said the incident happened sometime after 10 p.m. on July 17.
Officers responded to the Super 7 gas station on Bullard Street and found Wells on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators learned Wells had just arrived at the parking lot minutes earlier and pulled up next to another vehicle.
At that point, Holmes said someone fired shots at Wells as he got out of his vehicle.
Paramedics transported Wells to the hospital where he underwent surgery and remained in critical condition until Saturday morning, when he died of his injuries.
Officers arrested 33-year-old Antonio Jackson after he turned himself in to officers the day after the shooting.
Though initially charged with aggravated assault, Jackson will now face a murder charge following Wells' death.
