WARREN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) -

A 55-year-old man died Thursday evening after the vehicle he was working on fell on him, according to Warren County Deputy Coroner Kelda Bailess.

Deputy Coroner Kelda Bailess identified the man as 55-year-old Greg Raimondo.

He had retired from the army and was working as a civilian for the Corps of Engineer in Warren County.

Col. Michael C. Derosier, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, released the following statement:

Today is a somber day for the District. We lost one of our employees, Greg Raimondo, yesterday in a tragic accident. Greg was an exemplary man - as a warrior and officer in the U.S. Army, as a public affairs officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and as a husband, father, son, mentor and a friend to many. Our deepest condolences go out to Greg's family and friends.

It was an honor to have served with Greg, and I will miss him greatly and know that he will be missed by many throughout the Corps, the District and the Vicksburg community. This is a loss that will be felt Corps wide for years to come. Greg was a man of honor who selflessly served our nation for more than 30 years.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of tragic loss.

The accident happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. at Pecan Ridge Apartments on Culkin Road.

Deputy Coroner Bailess said a neighbor found the man and called 911.

The man died at the scene.
