A major law enforcement crackdown took nearly 300 violent offenders off the streets, thanks to the U.S. Marshal's Service.

From the beginning of April through mid-May, law officers canvassed the federal government's southern district targeting gangs, sex offenders, drug dealers and violent fugitives.

"We're coming after you, and we're not gonna stop until we get you," U.S. Attorney Michael Hurst said, warning the criminal element in the state.

Hurst said Adrian Lias is one of the violent criminals who was captured during Operation Triple Beam.

Lias was wanted in Jackson for aggravated assault, receiving stolen property and grand larceny.

For six weeks, U.S. Marshals and more than 25 law enforcement agencies tracked down and arrested 270 people.

Those arrests include juveniles and individuals from ongoing investigations.

"I think it's also a psychological element to it too. I think the criminals know that we're not asleep anymore," said Hurst. "We see what you're doing. We see how you're terrorizing our communities and our neighbors and we're not gonna take it anymore and we're coming after you."

Operation Triple Beam's team worked from Jackson to Biloxi, Meridian and Hattiesburg and back to Jackson, targeting violent fugitives, gang members and criminal offenders.

Eight wanted murderers and 20 sex offenders were captured.

A major focus was gangs. The Gangster Disciples,Vice Lords, Simon City Royals, Latin Kings and the Aryan Brotherhood.

"This sent a message," said Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason.

The sheriff said the operation put murders and felons behind bars significantly impacting the Jackson area.

"This made a big dent today. As you know lets just say school just let out and gang members are out," said Mason. "I mean all fashions, all facts of life and they don't have anything to do but terrorize good folks".

Fifty firearms, including assault rifles, illegal narcotics and about $26,000.00 in cash, were seized.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has also given the Southern District four new prosecutor positions to further attack crime through Project Safe Neighborhoods.
