A federal inmate was sentenced Monday after a weapon was found on him in prison.
35-year-old Joseph Shaw will serve 26 months in prison to be followed by a 3-year-term of supervised released for having the weapon.
On June 21, during a routine search, correctional officers found a 5.5 inch shank that Shaw made by sharpening a piece of plastic. Shaw plead guilty on January 25.
His earlier sentence was give in 2004 when Shaw was sentenced to 295 months after being convicted of carjacking with intent to cause death or bodily harm and using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.
Shaw was assigned to serve his sentence at the United State Penitentiary in Yazoo City.
He will serve this new sentence after he complete his earlier sentence.
