JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

Some children with special needs can only dream of doing things other kids do. That's why the Jackson Zoo, like many others around the world, opened the gates to kids and their families Friday night.

It is a private evening of doing almost everything they can dream of; free of charge, from Inky the Clown to games and good food and of course all the animals.

Executive Director Beth Poff said the kids aren't the only ones who benefit.

"I think the most important thing about this event is you give and you get all at the same time," said Poff. "The zoo staff that puts on this event gets just as much as the people that attend it and everyone that's a citizen deserves to have a special-ness about this."

The Dream Night at the Zoo concept began 18-years ago in Europe and is usually held on the first Friday in June.

Friday night's fun, sponsored by St. Dominic Health Services, started at 5 and ended at 7 p.m.
