Pickens man sentenced to federal prison for stealing, selling stolen firearms

A Pickens man was sentenced to federal prison for his involvement in stealing guns and then selling them illegally.

Estelle Cook. Jr. of Pickens was sentenced to ten years in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm. Cook will also have to pay $16,000 to the gun owner whose firearms he stole.

In July of 2014, Cook and Corey Hughes broke into Central Mississippi Firearms in Kosciusko by drilling a hole in the side of the business.

The pair then stole 41 guns and sold the firearms to buyers in Lexington and Durant for $100 per gun.

On October 3, 2017, Cook, Hughes, Darnell Branch and Fredrick Russell plead guilty to unlawful conspiracy to possess and sell firearms.

Russell, whose sentencing will take place June 5, faces five years in prison with a fine of $250,000. Hughes faces 10 years in prison while Branch faces five years in prison; both with the same fine of $250,000.

Their sentencing is scheduled for June 11.
