"It was a shock it was hurtful to see all he had done just to know he took Shelia's life, that was hurtful."

Anita Showers' former co-worker, Shelia Burage, was one of the 8 killed in the 2017 Memorial Day shooting spree in Lincoln County.

"Shelia was always a fun person to be around she was full of life, she loved to laugh," said Showers.

Lincoln Strong was the motto the community adopted in days following the tragic shootings. The victims ranged in age from 11 to 55.

Among them, Deputy William Durr who was killed in the line of duty, forever remembered across the county on decals bearing his badge numbers.

"I still hear about it still hear people talking about it so I don't think it's something, losing a loved one period is something you can't get over just like that, said Showers.

"As far as we've seen around the community we walked in stores and stuff everybody seems to be doing better," Tabatha Brock said. "Everybody seems to be fine but there is always going to be that hurt from where it hits you, stuff like that hits you especially when it happens in your community."

Godbolt is charged with four counts of capital murder, four counts of murder, and attempted murder, kidnapping and armed robbery. He remains in jail and his next court appearance is set for August 2.
