JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

The Jackson Hinds Library systems are offering a week for library patrons to return books and items without a fine.

They call this week, "amnesty week" and it will run from Monday, May 21- Saturday, May 26 at all 14 JHLS branches.

Customers of all ages can use the program to clear out overdue fines on books, DVDs, and CD books.

Library director Patty Furr said,

“To my knowledge, our library system has never offered an amnesty program that covers all library materials for all borrowers. We hope everyone will take advantage of this offer to return even things have not been seen at the library for a very long time. We certainly understand that everyone today has a very busy life, and we know that our customers may have forgotten to return something on time. Customers should not be embarrassed to return them, we are always happy to see overdue items as they may be out-of-print and unavailable for purchase today. ”

You must bring the overdue items in person to any of the 14 Jackson/Hinds branches during regular hours. This will clear all overdue fees from the borrower's account. Items left in the drop box or inside will not be included.

If an item is damaged, there will be a fee.
