JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

An investigation into dangerous conditions in a construction zone on West Street has turned up even more problems.

In between orange barrels, sits a sinkhole that is several feet wide and almost a foot deep.

There are other holes and bumps in the street that motorists have to dodge to get through the area.

Residents say they have seen some bad accidents and near misses by people trying to navigate through the area.

Last year, the city was working to repair a collapsed sewer line on the street.

Residents say they left, but never fully repaired the street.

"Cars pass by especially with trailers, it makes an awful racket," said Mark McGraw. "I live in the apartment right over there and I hear it all night.  It's going to cause a lot of wrecks and it needs repair, needs to be fixed."'

Monday, Jackson Public Works Director Robert Miller was asked if there was a timeline on when the street would be fixed.

He said he would investigate.
