JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Deonta McGee, a 20-year-old black man, died Friday, May 11, 2018, after a shooting on Queen Mary Lane, according to the Jackson Police Department.
Sgt. Roderick Holmes said shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the scene and discovered McGee suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Paramedics transported McGee to the hospital where he later died.
Investigators said a witness told them McGee had been walking in the area when he encountered another man, later identified as 25-year-old Christopher Devon Thompson.
After the two briefly talked, the witness said Thompson shot McGee.
Thompson later surrendered to police and has since been charged with murder.
