Carlos Lopez of Alcorn State was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball pitcher of the week for their performances over the past week of the regular season. Alcorn State third baseman Victoria Tyler was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's softball hitter of the week after her impressive outings during games played from April 17-21.

Carlos Lopez (Alcorn State)
RHP - 6-3 - Jr. - Barranquitas, PR
The junior from Barranaquitas, Puerto Rico started the first game in this weekend’s East Division matchup with MVSU. He went 7.0 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and no free bases. Lopez threw a total of 108 pitches and faced 27 batters, fanning nine of them. With the victory, he improved to 3-2 on the season.
Hitter of the Week
Victoria Tyler (Alcorn State)
3B - Jr. - 5-5 - Gulfport, Miss.
Tyler had a big week from the clean-up position. The junior hit for a .429 average and .571 slugging. She went 6-for-14 with two doubles, six RBI’s and a pair of runs scored. Over the weekend alone, she batted for a .545 average and .727 slugging to help Alcorn sweep AAMU in a three-game series. It catapulted the Lady Braves into first-place in the SWAC East Division. Tyler notched multi-hit games in all three matches against AAMU. In the series finale, she knocked in four RBIs. She leads the team with 26 RBI’s on the season.
