As e-cigarettes and vapes become more popular with adult smokers trying to quit cigarettes, young people are also starting to use the devices. One device, a more dangerous option, is becoming more and more popular. It’s called a Juul.
Kids use it as a very, calling it Juuling and research shows it is very dangerous. If you’re the parent of a teenager, you need to educate yourself.
Juuls are easily hidden and look like a flash drive or USB device. What’s scary is most teenagers don’t even know what they are inhaling. Some of the Juul pods have the same amount of nicotine as a pack of cigarettes.
Juuling is becoming such an issue, schools are now catching kids using the device during class. And when the kids are caught, many schools are suspending or expelling the students.
There are few regulations for these devices and that needs to change, but it won’t happen right away. Right now, it’s up to parents, teachers, and other leaders who can influence and impact the decisions of young people.
As a parent of teenagers, I have seen it first hand and encourage you to get involved. We don’t know the long-term health consequences, so it’s important to address it now before the damage becomes permanent and more severe.
