The Mississippi state Supreme Court overturned a ruling to rezone an area for a proposed Costco development Thursday.
The court ruled in the favor of neighborhood advocates citing that the amendments were "entirely designed to suit Costco".
The ruling also listed illegal spot-zoning.
The ruling stated that the circuit court erred in finding that the Costco amendments were not "arbitrary and capricious".
Developers were hoping to bring a Costco Wholesale store near Highland Colony Parkway.
Members of the Ridgeland Citizens for Responsible Development group argued the rezoning of the property was done illegally, without following proper procedures. However, attorneys representing the City of Ridgeland said that’s not the case.
This new court ruling halts the development of the store.
