Man accused of Kroger meat theft hospitalized after brief chase

RICHLAND, MS (WLBT) -

A Port Gibson man, accused of stealing meat from the Richland Kroger, is hospitalized after his vehicle flipped across from Fire Station #1.

Police were called to the Richland Kroger shortly after 7 p.m. They pursued 67-year-old Burnell Hamlin of Port Gibson and were able to stop him on Scarbrough Street, but after they got out o their cars, he drove off.

Police pursued Hamlin to Old Highway 49 North where his vehicle flipped. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Charges which include shoplifting and felony fleeing are pending.
