A Jackson church and its members want to breathe new life into a portion of Highway 80, while giving senior citizens a new lease on life.
Pearl Street A.M.E. Church held a Town Hall meeting Monday night to update church members and those interested in plans to revitalize an old hotel.
Church leaders say it is time for a call to action in the community.
"Let's make a difference in our community in education, in housing, safe harbors for children, and seniors also," said Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Boyd, church pastor.
"Pearl Street acquired the old Southwest Hotel formerly known as the Holiday Inn," said Project Director Deborah Giles. "And our goal and our vision is to turn it into a senior living facility."
The church has formed the Pearl Street Community Development Corporation and they are working with the Jackson Medical Mall Foundation.
They also hope to gain support from city and state leaders to revitalize West Jackson.
