The first west Jackson house to be renovated through the Jackson Gateway Project is complete.
The rehabilitated house is located on Jayne Avenue.
Mayor Tony Yarber, representatives from the Mississippi Housing Partnership, the Green Healthy Homes Initiative and City Councilman Charles Tillman celebrated the milestone during a ceremony outside the house with the homeowner, Bobby Clay.
Clay says the celebration couldn't have came at a better time.
"The Lord just blessed me", said Clay. "I never dreamed all this would be bestowed upon me, on my birthday!"
The City of Jackson, in collaboration with the Mississippi Housing Partnership and other partners, will utilize a $4 million federal HOME grant fund to rehabilitate qualified homes in west Jackson.
The pilot project will have a focus on infrastructure, housing and economic development.
The target area in Phase I includes Claiborne St., Ellis Ave., Holland St., Houston St., Jayne St., Macy St., and Moss St.
