One man has died, Tuesday, at UMMC after a Monday shooting at a south Jackson home.
On Monday, July 18, around 12 p.m., Jackson Police Officers responded to 203 Ferguson Drive regarding a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Danny Cherry shot in the face. He was transported to UMMC.
Police learned that Cherry, came to the home with a bat and attempted to fight 35-year-old Cleotha Weatherspoon over a stolen X-Box gaming system.
During fight, Cherry pulled out a handgun.
There was an struggle over the handgun between Cherry and Weatherspoon and during the struggle, the gun went off, hitting Cherry once in the face.
Weatherspoon was questioned regarding this investigation and was later arrested for a foreign warrant for violation of probation.
This is still and active and ongoing investigation.
No charges in the death of Danny Cherry have been filed at this time.
