JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

Saturday was a perfect day to cool off and the Ice Cream Safari at the Jackson Zoo was the place to do it.

The tigers, giraffes and orangutans even wanted to sample the Blue Bunny ice cream being scooped up by local media celebrities, including ours here at WLBT/WDBD.

"We are new to Mississippi. We've lived here about a year. We moved from Arkansas. My husband works for Entergy, and he's off today," said Andrea Brignac, who is attending her first Ice Cream Safari. "So we brought the kids out to have some great ice cream and to see these beautiful animals."

You could choose from 22 delicious flavors during the Jackson Zoo's annual fundraiser.

If the ice cream wasn't enough to cool you off, you could also take a plunge in the dunk tank.

A big part of the Ice Cream Safari is the scooping competition where visitors vote on their favorite server and flavor.

"It's one of the greatest assets that the city has. You know, whether we're talking about the airport or whether we're talking about waste water treatment facilities, at the end of the day the zoo is one of the only places in the city where everybody can come," said Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber, one of the celebrity scoopers. "If you look around we've got black, white, young , old - everybody here smiling, having a good time".

This is the Ice Cream Safari's 22nd year.
