Two Jackson men have been sentenced for auto theft, according to Attorney General Jim Hood.
21-year-old Satchel Tolbert and 23-year-old Jeremy Powe, both from Jackson, appeared Monday in court and pleaded guilty to one count of auto theft.
They were sentenced to 7 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with two years suspended and five years to serve followed by two years of post-release supervision.
Tolbert and Powe, along with two additional co-defendants, participated in stealing a car following an fight in May 2013, which resulted in the death of 66-year-old R.B. Ervin of Jackson. The car belonged to the victim.
All four defendants in this case were charged with capital murder. The investigation revealed that only one defendant was involved with the shooting of the victim. That individual was sentenced to 25 years during the last term of court.
