An 18-year-old was killed and three others are critically injured after a car crash in Rankin County on the July 4th holiday.

According to authorities, 18-year-old Clinton Cole Kirby, of Brandon, died in the wreck that happened around 5 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Fannin Landing Circle.

According to Rankin County Undersheriff Raymond Dukes, four teens, including Kirby, were all riding in a Jeep, when it left the roadway and flipped several time. All four were ejected.

Rankin County Deputies along with the Reservoir Fire Department, Pafford Ambulance and AirCare responded to the scene. Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said that all of the victims were under 19-years-old and attend schools in Madison and Rankin Counties.

Kirby was pronounced dead on the scene.

Kirby was a student and baseball player at Madison Ridgeland Academy.

The baseball program tweeted about the loss of the 18-year-old.

The three others, identified as Peyton Horton, Parker Madeo and Tyler Price, were taken to UMMC. One was airlifted and the others were taken by ambulance.

According to UMMC officials, they are all in critical condition.

In a email to families, MRA officials said that Horton, also a student at the school, is in the ICU and will have surgery on Tuesday to repair a damaged vertebrae. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The school also reports that Madeo and Price are in the ICU with serious, but not life threatening injuries.

Dear MRA Family,

Our hearts are heavy this morning as we write this e-mail. Yesterday, Monday, July 4th there was a car accident involving two of our senior students, Peyton Horton and Cole Kirby, and two other Rankin county students. It is with great sadness that we tell you we lost Cole Kirby, the son of Sherry and Bo Kirby and brother of MRA alum, Tyler. Please be in prayer for the Kirby family as they cope with this loss. When we know further details about the funeral arrangements we will pass them along.

At this time, Peyton is in ICU and will have surgery today to repair damaged vertebrae and is expected to make a full recovery.  We ask that you pray for Peyton and the Horton family during this time.

The other students involved, Parker Madeo and Tyler Price, are in ICU. While they have serious injuries they are not life threatening. Please keep these young men and their families in your prayers.

MRA will open our high school gym from 6:15 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. tonight as a place to pray for these boys and their families.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
