JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -
Shots rang out inside a South Jackson home after noon on Friday.
"There was an argument inside the residence then the suspect pulled out a weapon and started firing shots inside the house," said Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance.

Twenty-five year-old Johnathan Beasley ran out of the Lakewood Drive home and that's when police were notified.

"When police arrived, this individual ran back inside the house and barricaded himself inside," added Vance.

The SWAT team was dispatched to tactically handle the situation, but it shortly ended before SWAT members had to go inside.

"Thanks to a resourceful supervisor and a no nonsense mom, this situation was taken care of in short order," said Vance. "The supervisor actually contacted the suspect's mom and she called the suspect and told him he needed to come out of the house."

Crime Scene Investigators brought out a box with the gun they believe Beasley used. Chief Vance said it was a dangerous domestic situation that could have had a different ending.
Vance said domestic calls are one of the worst and most unpredictable calls officers face.

"Folks argue over little to nothing and then the next thing you know, someone is fighting, shooting, sometimes people are even dead," added Vance. "So, as a community, we must find better ways to resolve it."

Beasley is behind bars charged with shooting inside an occupied dwelling.
