A special building dedication ceremony was held Sunday at Belhaven University for the official opening of the Dr. Billy Kim International Center.
Kim was a house boy during the Korean War, when he said he met U.S. Sergeant Carl Powers who educated him for nine years, here in the states.
According to Belhaven University, he is a broadcaster, pastor and speaker who created an international media network at Far East Broadcasting Company-Korea, where he serves as Chairman of the Board.
The center will be used to educate Chinese, Japanese, Korean, European, South American and American students in global education.
Belhaven University officials said the 18,000 square foot building cost $4 million dollars to construct.
The International Center will also highlight the relationship between the university and South Korea.
The Far East Broadcasting Company's Korean Children's Choir also performed in Kim's honor.
"We are hoping there will be some scholarship funds for them to come learn globally," said Kim. "How a young Korean came to this country with nothing, yet he became an entrepreneur and become multimillionaire, able to help other people who are struggling."
Governor Phil Bryant was also on hand for the ceremony and participated in the ribbon cutting.
