Miss Mississippi 2016 crowned in Vicksburg

She came to Vicksburg a week ago as Miss Dixie, Sunday she woke up as Miss Mississippi 2016.

Laura Lee Lewis was crowned in Vicksburg Saturday night  and now begins preparing for the Miss America Pageant in September.

This was the fourth year Laura Lee Lewis competed for the Miss Mississippi crown.  She was second runner up in 2015. Saturday night she was called for the Top 10 and the opportunity to score with the judges in evening wear, talent, and swimwear.  Then it was time for the announcement of the Top 5.

After answering the on stage question, the Top 5 took the stage to find out who would take the walk on the Miss Mississippi runway.

Laura Lee Lewis said, "I'm so honored and so thrilled because four long years of wanting a dram to be Miss Mississippi."

The new Miss Mississippi says she is grateful for the opportunity to promote her platform Mentoring Matters to help children who deal with bullies as she had to.

Lewis told us, "I really want to help people know that its okay. Yes it hurts, but you are still so loved, you still have so much value and potential in life and you can do so many great things if you just believe in yourself."

Preparations begin immediately for the Miss America Pageant which will be held in Atlantic City, September 11th.

Lewis said, " I want to continue on the path that I'm going just working extremely hard and being 200% Laura Lee all the way."

The fourth runner up was Miss Deep River, Mia Hall. Third runner up, Holly Harrington, Miss Tombigbee, in second place, Molly May, Miss Amory and first runner up, Anne Elizabeth Buys, Miss Turtle Creek.
